Solar Electric Vehicle is a vehicle that essentially drives by solar energy. The proposed abbreviation is for cars that can recharge a significant portion of their range with solar energy and do not have a hybrid powertrain. The term “solar vehicle” usually implies that solar energy is used to power all or part of a vehicle’s propulsion.
Therefore, at least half of the usable battery capacity (half of the vehicle range) must be recharged without plugging in everyday operation scenarios such as during the day.
Therefore, vehicles with a more extended range must capture more solar energy. Vehicles unable to charge more than half of their normal range with solar energy can still be called mildly solar powered if they can get at least some of the content from solar energy.
Examples: Solar plane, Mars rover.
